(ANSAmed) - RABAT, MARCH 5 - Morocco is not only betting on wind and solar energy to reduce its dependence on fossil fuel imports, it also has a new strategy to save 10-15 billion dirhams (1-1.35 billion euros) a year by 2030, officials said Tuesday.

Energy Minister Fouad Douiri announced that the new energy and cost-saving strategy is being developed in collaboration with the Agency for Renewable Energy Development and Energy Efficiency, AuFait reported.

The three-phase strategy is expected to kick off by the end of 2013. The initial phase will take stock of pilot projects and compare them to international benchmarks. The second phase will involve choosing which projects to implement next, and the final phase will involve coming up with a master plan for their execution, which will be supported by professionals from three training institutes to be opened in the cities of Ouarzazate, Oujda, and Tangiers.
