Mediterranean: 5+5 Dialogue and Economic Forum in Lisbon

    (ANSAmed) - MADRID, MAY 16 - The Economic Forum and the 11th foreign ministers meeting of the 5+5 Dialogue Forum (Portugal, Italy, Spain, France, Malta, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Libya, and Mauritania) will be held May 21-22 in Lisbon. Diplomatic sources say that Italy's foreign minister, Federica Mogherini, will be present. Opening remarks will be made by Portugal's deputy prime minister, Paulo Portas, as well as the secretary general of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), Fathallah Sijilmassi.

    Sustainable development, the environment, challenges in the transport and infrastructure sector, business opportunities, cooperation and partnership will be focused on. Speeches will be made by Rui Chancellere de Machete and Ahmed Ould Teguedi, the foreign ministers of Portugal and Mauritania (which currently hold the co-presidency of the 5+5 Dialogue). The forum, launched in 1983 in France and established in 1990, aims to strengthen political dialogue and cooperation in the shared areas of interest among the countries of the western Mediterranean and promote economic development in North Africa. The events will be preceded on May 20 by the fifth meeting of the parliaments of Dialogue Forum nations, with Chamber of Deputies Speaker Marina Sereni representing Italy. The issues to be discussed include the challenges of regional security, economic growth and climate change, social development, migration, the struggle against human trafficking, the protection of victims of organized crime, and parliamentary cooperation in the region.
