Jordan: Euromoney conference on economy, refugees, energy

Event gathers 300 officials, investors and experts

    AMMAN - Jordan is scheduled this month to hold financial conference to discuss foreign investment, refugees and unemployment, energy and political challenges facing the kingdom's economic performances, organizers said on Tuesday.

    Organized by Euromoney Conferences, one of the world's main conference organizers for cross-border investment and capital markets, the conference will be held on April 25. It brings together 300 financiers, investors, business leaders, entrepreneurs and government officials.

    "We will chart the developments in Jordan's economy, put these changes in the context of the global macroeconomic picture and discuss the role of the financial sector in the country's economic future," said a statement by Euroconference published on its website.

    The one day event will also examine the positive effects that lower energy prices and international support have had on banks and public finances, analyze challenges including the dependence on foreign aid, unemployment caused by the influx of refugees and needed improvement on business environment.

    Major topics of discussion include innovation and entrepreneurship, micro and SME financing, growth companies, financial inclusion and the role of the financial sector in creating jobs.

    Keynote addresses will be delivered by Finance Minister Omar Malhas, and Planning and International Cooperation Minister Imad Fakhoury. (ANSAmed).
