(ANSAmed) - MADRID, JANUARY 12 - Spain is opening to the cryptocurrency Bitcoin, with tickets to the Bernabeu Stadium in Santiago and the Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen Museums slated to be available for purchase with Bitcoin starting February 1, according to sources at 13Tikets.com.

The website is the first Spanish business to allow payment in Bitcoin in the tourism sector, "with the same guarantees as payment in cash", it said.

The digital currency was also used for the first time in the sale of an apartment in Tarragona, by a real estate agency that works exclusively with the cryptocurrency.

"Interest is growing," said Victor Monreal, national executive director of Mister Piso, cited by the media.

Monreal said he is convinced that operations in Bitcoin will revitalise the country's real estate industry.

Meanwhile, the country's National Securities Market Commission (CNMV), together with the Bank of Spain, is looking at developing regulations to cover gaps in the sector, according to sources from CNMV cited by Spanish daily elEconomista.
