(ANSAmed) - BRUSSELS, SEPTEMBER 25 - Mapping innovative
eco-systems in the Mediterranean region, with a particular focus
on digital startups, getting to know all events and stakeholders
working on the ground, discussing ideas and best practices is
the aim of 'Startup Europe Mediterranean' (Semed), an initiative
promoted by FacilityLive ( the startup with the highest
estimated value - 225 million euros) in cooperation with Startup
Europe and the European Commission.
The official launch of Semed is scheduled in March in Matera,
the European culture capital in 2019. Some of the operational
activities of the initiative will be managed from Potenza, in
Basilicata, while rìthe headquarters will be in Pavia, at
FacilityLive, which will manage the architecture and functioning
of the new cloud platform.
''This initiative is also a bit of a recognition of the lengthy work to connect with Europe, which started in 2014 when we did the most simple thing, moving the company to Silicon Valley. It was the right choice'', said the founder of FacilityLive, Gianpiero Lotito. ''Launching this new network connects different priorities of Europe: startup, investments as well as a strategy for the Mediterranean as a geo-strategic area, with innovation at the center of neighborhood policies, development and cooperation and migrant flows'', said Isidro Laso, who is in charge of Startup Europe.
