(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, OCTOBER 23 - The Tunisian Company of Petroleum Activities (ETAP) on Tuesday announced the launch of a two-year program to drill 20 oil wells in order to increase crude oil production in the country. The announcement was by ETAP deputy director general Abdelwaheb Khamassi at the beginning of a conference on hydrocarbon exploration and production in Tunisia that will continue Wednesday, noting that ETAP is a non-operating partner in almost 90% of the concessions. ''We are currently in the development phase for between 30 and 35 oil wells that will consolidate Tunisian reserves. Our participation guarantees between 70,000 and 80,000 barrels, which cover less than 50% of our needs. However, the projects underway will help increase production,'' Khamassi said, also announcing that the large Naouara oil field in southern Tunisia will be operating in June 2019. The conference on hydrocarbon exploration and production in Tunisia was organized by ETAP to present the latest developments in the sector on the basis of the most recent reports, studies and research entrusted to Tunisian and foreign experts with the aim of promoting hydrocarbon exploration in Tunisia. Tunisian hydrocarbon production has been halved since 2011 and now stands at an average of 40,000 barrels per day of oil compared with 80,000 in 2010. (ANSAmed).
