GAZA - Qatar's envoy Mohammad al-Emadi last night reached Gaza from Israel with new economic aid for residents in the Gaza Strip. According to local media, he brought 25 million dollars, including 10 for needy households, 10 to buy fuel for the electrical power station and five to support UN humanitarian projects. Local sources added that, after hearing of his arrival, large crowds of residents formed in front of post offices as members of low-income families hope to receive 100 dollars each.
The aid from Qatar is part of efforts also carried out by Egypt and the UN to stabilize an informal ceasefire between Israel and Hamas along the border with Gaza. The newspaper Yediot Ahronot on Monday reported that Israel is starting work to connect with a large new pipe the Gaza Strip to Israel's water system in an attempt to help supply the Strip which has a shortage of potable water.
