(ANSAmed) - ISTANBUL, OCTOBER 7 - The Turkish drilling ship Yavuz, which was sent to the eastern Mediterranean in search of hydrocarbons off Cyprus, will start drilling "today or tomorrow", said Turkish Energy Minister Fatih Donmez.

The Turkish ship was sent to an area in which the Nicosia government gave a license to Italian energy company ENI together with French energy company Total.

Donmez's comments came at an energy forum in Antalya, after Italy and France expressed concern on Saturday over Turkey's sending of the ship.

The other Turkish ship already working in offshore drilling in the Cyprus exclusive economic zone, the Fatih, "is continuing its drilling", Donmez said.

Ankara claims the area is part of its continental shelf and says it is defending the rights of the Turkish-Cypriot minority on the island's energy resources.(ANSAmed).
