CAIRO - Clashes between forces answering to the Government of National Accord (GNA) under Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj and those of General Khalifa Haftar have led to the closing of the El Feel oil field in Libya.

The field is run by Italy's ENI alongside the Libyan National Oil Company (NOC). The suspensions of activities until the end of military operations was announced by the NOC on Twitter. The installation is located near Sabha in southern Libya, about 650 km south of Tripoli.

After announcing military activities in the region of the El Feel oil field, but not reporting any material damage or casualties resulting, NOC said that employees were in a safe area but that they cannot resume their normal tasks. Production, it said, would thus remain closed until military operations cease and all military personnel withdraw from the NOC operations area. El Feel is part of the Mellitah Oil and Gas joint venture and is a large field with estimated daily output at 70,000-75,000 barrels.
