(by Valentina Maresca) (ANSAmed) - ROME, NOVEMBER 12 - Naples with one of its greatest artists, Eduardo De Filippo, will star on Tuesday night at the MedFilm Festival. The Cinema Savoy in Rome will host the screening at 8 pm of the film out of competition "Il sindaco del rione Sanità" (The mayor of district Sanità) a play by De Filippo on which is based the movie directed by Neapolitan filmmaker Mario Martone, who will attend the screening.

The portrayal of Antonio Barracano and the people around him comes from the "attention Eduardo always had for reality, for social issues and the relationship between mankind and society", said Martone, who presented the film at the 76th Venice Film Festival, winning the Leoncino d'Oro. The award was given to Martone for "evoking the atmosphere of the stage while renewing a genre in an unconventional manner". The movie represented with elegance and brutality a context in which violence stems from ignorance and the protagonist's morality defies stereotypes, the jurors said.

Martone's film will be screened at the Savoy after a movie competing for an award at the festival, Turkey's "A Tale of Three Sisters" by Emin Alper, in the original version with subtitles in English. In the afternoon and evening the Sala 4 of the Savoy will host short films competing for an award.
