(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, NOVEMBER 12 - The program of the 'Fourth week of Italian cuisine in the world' has been presented. The annual event is promoted by the foreign ministry in collaboration with the ministries of the environment and economic development and focuses on the excellence of Italy's culinary tradition. Many initiatives have been organized in Tunis on November 18-22 by the Italian embassy, in cooperation with the Italian cultural institute, ICE - the agency for the promotion abroad and the internationalization of Italian companies, and the Tunisian-Italian chamber of trade and industry. The fourth edition of the event in Tunisia will focus on "food education and the culture of taste".

"Italy promotes an important awareness campaign on food education, with particular attention on the relationship between health and food, the valorization of the Mediterranean diet (recognized as intangible heritage by UNESCO), environmental sustainability but also the safeguard of the identity of territories and biodiversity", said a statement of the Italian embassy in Tunis. It listed the numerous events organized as part of the initiative, including cooking shows, performances and seminars. Celebrity chefs to attend will include Antonella Ricci and Vinod Sookar, who own a restaurant awarded with a Michelin star for three decades iFornello dai Ricci in Ceglie Messapica in Puglia.

The calendar of events organized in Tunis will be available on the Facebook page dedicated to the "Week of Italian cuisine in Tunisia 2019". "The theme of food education, at the center of this edition of the Week of Italian cuisine, is of extreme importance and very current at a global level", said Italian Ambassador Lorenzo Fanara. "It is connected in particular to the need to fight food waste. I have been struck by data published over the last few weeks by the Tunisian national consumption institute showing how this is a real problem in Tunisia", he said calling for awareness and education campaigns. "It is fundamental for the consumer to gain awareness in order to change habits and set the grounds for a global change starting with simple daily gestures". (ANSAmed).
