(ANSAmed) - NAPLES, OCTOBER 9 - Organizations fighting for land rights from Italy, Palestine, Spain, Morocco, Moldova, Kosovo, Albania, Scotland and the Balkans will meet in Torrecuso, near Benevento, on October 10-12 for the annual assembly of the International Land Coalition (ILC).

The Regional Assembly gathers countries from Europe, the Middle East and North Africa that will examine problems and issues because, despite the diversity of their challenges, they share common issues and connections, organizers said.

The meeting coincides with a new regional law in Campania that supports small farmers, and particularly is aimed at helping young people thrive in their organic and small-scale agricultural businesses. The host of the event, the cooperative Lentamente, has worked to promote the new legislation, along with several other small-scale farmers from the region.

Lentamente is a social cooperative founded in 2013 by a group of young friends who created an organic farm in Benevento. They farm, set on 19 hectares of land, became a member of ILC in 2018.

The event aims to consolidate the group, build common approaches on issues such as immigration, the future of young farmers, land degradation, climate change and the rights of local communities.

The International Land Coalition is a global alliance of civil society and intergovernmental organizations. The stated goal of ILC's over 250 members is to promote land governance, protecting the rights of women, men and communities who live from the land. (ANSAmed).
