(ANSAmed) - BRUSSELS, JANUARY 11 - European Commission
President Ursula von der Leyen on Monday, addressing the summit
on biodiversity ''One planet'' in Paris, called for urgent
action to safeguard the environment and prevent future
pandemics. ''If we don't act urgently to protect our nature, we
could already be at the start of an era of pandemics'', she
said. ''We have spoken a lot about the connection between
biodiversity loss and Covid. But this is not the first, the last
or the most significant example'', she continued, noting that
this is how ''we believe one of the most lethal epidemics,
Ebola, started''. (ANSA).
