    (ANSAmed) - VALLETTA - The 22nd annual conference of the Permanent Conference of the Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators (COPEAM) was presented in Malta on Wednesday. The presentation was by COPEAM President Talal El Makdessi and Secretary General Pier Luigi Malesani as well as Malta's Public Broadcasting Service chief Tonio Portughese. The theme of this year's edition focuses on the role of the media in treating migration issues in the Mediterranean region.

    Some 200 participants from 26 countries (Algeria, Austria, Belgium, Ivory Coast, Croatia, Egypt, France, Germany, Jordan, Italy, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Mauritania, Palestine, the UK, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Romania, Serbia, Syria, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia and Turkey) are expected. In the opening evening on March 26, two documentaries will be awarded the TV co-production promoted by COPEAM and Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) Inter-Rives IV ''Sports Without Borders'': one by the Slovenian broadcaster RTVSLO and the other by Moroccan broadcaster SNRT. The conference will officially open on Friday, March 27, followed by two sessions on this year's theme. The theme of the conference and the role of television will be the subject of the second session, followed by a meeting of COPEAM's seven theme-based working committees (television, radio, archives, training, TV news and magazines, gender parity, and cinema/festivals/culture), in which the participants will have the chance to present projects and deal with issues of shared interest. On the closing day of Saturday, March 28, the COPEAM Assembly General will meet and a three-way meeting of ASBU, COPEAM and EBU will be held. (ANSAmed).
