(ANSAmed) - MADRID, NOVEMBER 10 - The 11th edition of the MedaWeek economic leaders conference takes its 2017 theme as "Strength in Diversity: Our Economic Power" and is set to bring together over 200 leaders in economics, politics, business and multilateral institutions from Europe, the Middle East, and Africa in Barcelona on November 22-24.

The conference is organised by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) in collaboration with the Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASCAME), the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, and the European Institute for the Mediterranean (IEMed). It will focus on emerging sectors for Mediterranean economies as well as consolidating and innovating traditional sectors, through seminars, special sessions, and public-private business networking. The aim is to allow the Mediterranean to benefit from its current assets in a strategic way for the future of the region.

UfM said the region must maximise its social resources, such as its large human capital and the talent of its young people, and translate these into dynamic entrepreneurship and digital innovation, above all in the service sector.

It said the region's diversity must be taken advantage of as a quality and advantage for diversifying economic trends, attracting investments, and strengthening international cooperation between the countries of the northern and southern Mediterranean.

The conference's theme will guide discussions into economic trends and solutions linked to regional changes.

It will also bring together women entrepreneurs, experts in Islamic finance, and experts in the sectors of solar energy, water technology and industry, the circular economy, city economic development, textiles and fashion, the Magreb area and the Mashreq regions. During MedaWeek there will also be the Women Entrepreneurs and Investments Forum, organised by UfM together with the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and ASCAME, with the Women Entrepreneurship and Investments Programme 2017.

Through dedicated forums, B2B meetings and study trips, the meetings will promote and facilitate dialogue between women entrepreneurs on the two shores of the Mediterranean, to strengthen cooperation and create new business opportunities.
