(ANSAmed) - MADRID - Italian painting on stone is the focus of an exhibition that opened at the Prado in Madrid on Tuesday, until August 5.

'In Lapide Depictum. Italin painting on stone (1530-1555) brings together a selection of nine paintings on monochrome stone (slate and white marble) by Italian painters such as Sebastiano del Piombo, Titian, Daniele da Volterra and Leandro Bassano, who drew on the sophisticated techniques used by ancient Greek and Roman masters. Curated by Ana Gonzalez Mozo, the centrepieces of the exhibition are 'La Dolorosa con le mani aperte' (oil on marbe, 1555) and 'Ecce Homo' (oil on slate, 1647) by Titian, which belong to the Prado's own collection and have been restored for the occasion with support from the Iberdrola Foundation.
