Greece: General strike by those working in the media

(ANSAmed) - ATHENS, MAY 28 - Greek media workers (journalists as well as administrative employees and those in distribution) will be on strike between 6 AM this morning and 6 AM tomorrow morning (Tuesday 29 May) to demand a satisfactory collective labour contract and an end to lay-offs and salary cuts brought in by employers. The strike - called by the ESHEA and EFHEA unions, which include journalists and administrative employees of the media sector - will affect daily papers, magazines, news agencies, radio and television stations, websites and newspaper distribution agencies from all of Greece. The statement issued by the union of those working in the sector claimed that ''against their blackmail and terrorism, we are putting up resistance, all of us united to the very end''. Workers in the sector are due to meet at 11:30 AM in a protest in front of the Journalists Association in Athens.(ANSAmed).
