(ANSAmed) - Paris - The first baby born in France in 2013 is called Sasha, weighs just a little over three kilos and he is the son of two mothers, Maud and Delphine, a homosexual couple, television channel France 3 reports, stressing that the birth occurs as a national debate on same-sex unions is heating up.

The little boy was born in Moulins, Auvergne, in central France, after the couple resorted to artificial insemination in Belgium, where the procedure is legal for same-sex couples.

'We were lucky as we had to undergo only one insemination, which worked right away', the mother who did not give birth told the television network. 'Everyone was ready to give life to our small family'.

Under French law, only the woman who gave birth is recognized as a parent and only if a draft law on gay marriage will be approved, the other parent will enjoy the same parental rights. (ANSAmed)
