(ANSAmed) - Rome, August 21 - Wines from ancient Rome are enjoying a rebirth in Sicily, thanks to experiments being organized by the University of Catania.

Researchers from Catania, located in eastern Sicily, are following instructions from classic Roman texts in their experiments conducted for the National Research Council.

The project aims to test and verify ancient Roman techniques of wine production, from planting to harvesting to fermentation using ancient recipes - all written in Latin - and historic instruments.

The first production, using grapes planted last spring, is expected in four years, researchers say.
