(ANSAmed) - LISBON, JULY 7 - A Dutch youth, suspected of being a member of a jihadist group, was arrested at Lisbon's international airport after he had boarded a flight operated by Taag airline bound for Angola, police said Monday.

The 29-year-old of Angolan origin had a knife on him when detained. The arrest occurred last Thursday but security officials only spoke about the case to the media on Monday.

The man told Portuguese authorities he had spent time in a jihadist training camp in Syria.

He had reportedly arrived in Portugal a few days prior to his arrest; investigations are ongoing to discover what the man did prior to his arrest and whether he met anyone of interest and how he was able to board a plane while carrying a weapon.
