(ANSAmed) - TEL AVIV - Clashes have been reported in the mainly Palestinian area of Silwan in East Jerusalem after dozens of Jews overnight settled in a few homes bought for them by a US firm. Israeli military radio reported Tuesday that stones and petards were launched but there were no victims.

Located next to the walls of the Old City, Silwan has been often at the center of clashes between Arab and Jewish residents, whose number has grown over the past decade.

Jerusalem's police is boosting security measures in the Old City ahead of the weekend, when Jewish pilgrims celebrating Kippur and Muslims celebrating the Festival of Sacrifice are expected. (ANSAmed)
