(ANSAmed) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 30 - The Islamic State (IS) on
Tuesday released the third video of British hostage John
Cantlie.
The video shows Cantlie, a journalist taken hostage two
years ago, speaking about US president Barack Obama's recent
speech commemorating the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
Cantlie stated that the US would not gain ground using
airstrikes: ''air power is good at taking out specific targets
but it is not much use a taking and holding ground''.
He added that the conflict in Syria and Iraq would not make the West any safer, according to international media outlets reporting on the content of the third video. The hostage, wearing an orange jumpsuit and behind a desk like in the previous 'programs', said that IS had not persecuted and killed Christians and Yezidis. After disappearing in November 2012 in Syria, the journalist appeared on September 18 this year in a video entitled 'Lend Me Your Ears', in which he called on the 'public' to take action to stop another conflict in the line of the 'disastrous' ones in Iraq and Afghanistan. A few days later, in a second video Cantlie said that Western countries had underestimated their opponents and that they were up against a situation that could turn into a second Vietnam. (ANSAmed).
