Spain: 150 migrants stopped from crossing Melilla border

    (ANSAmed) - MADRID, OCTOBER 29 - A reported 150 sub-Saharan migrants were stopped on Wednesday morning as they were trying to cross the border into Melilla, a Spanish enclave in Morocco.

    At least three were able to cross into Spanish territory and reached the migrant holding center (Ceti) of the Spanish autonomous city, police sources said.

    Police forces deployed in large numbers both on the Spanish and Moroccan sides of the border rejected the assault, which occurred at 7.30 am in the border area of Mariguari, close to the river of Gold.

    Over 3,500 migrants were able to cross the border from January 1 until July 15 this year, up 230% from the same period in 2013 and more than all of last year, when 2,638 migrants crossed the border illegally.(ANSAmed).
