(ANSAmed) - ROME, OCT 31 - An "unprecedented" number of foreign fighters coming from countries that had never offered "manpower" to islamic terrorism before, have joined the ranks of jihadi militants, The Guardian reported Friday, publishing excerpts from a new United Nations report . "Fifteen-thousand" foreign fighters joined Isis and other extremist groups in Syria and Iraq . They belong to 80 different countries. The UN does not provide a detailed list but mentions just a few countries - the Maldives, Cile and Norway - that were never before thought of as jihadi birthplaces.

"More foreign fighters have been reported since 2010 than during the 1990-2010, twenty-year span". And the numbers "keep growing" states the report.
