Yemen: Saudi Arabia 50k soldiers, 100 fighter jets

Yemen airspace patrols, Egypt joins coalition

26 March, 10:54

(ANSAmed) - ROME, MARCH 26 - Saudi Arabia has deployed 100 fighter aircraft and 150 thousand soldiers, as well as naval units, as part of the offensive against Houthi rebels in Yemen, a pan-Arab broadcaster reported on Thursday.

Saudi air force took control of the Yemeni airspace at dawn, Al Arabiya television said. Egypt has announced its full political and "military" support to the Arab coalition against Houthi rebels in Yemen, the Foreign Ministry in Cairo said in statement.

"Coordination with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries is underway for the participation of an air, naval and ground force to the coalition," the statement said.

As is known, the last time that Egypt had intervened in Yemen was at the beginning of the 1960s: at the time, thousands of troops were sent to support a coup that overthrew a Shiite monarchy, of religious orientation similar that of the Houthi.
