Immigration: 846 migrants disembark in Lampedusa

Lampedusa reception centre hosting 1,400 people

    (ANSAmed) - LAMPEDUSA (AGRIGENTO), APRIL 14 - Eight-hundred and forty-six migrants disembarked in Lampedusa last night after they were rescued in the Sicilian Canal.

    There are one-hundred and twenty women, four of which pregnant, and 40 minors in the group.

    A dead body, recovered at sea after a shipwreck off the coast of Libya was also disembarked at the port's Todaro wharf, other 8 corpsed were transferred to Trapani late last night.

    The four pregnant women will be accompanied to the hospital of Agrigento as a precautionary measure.

    Approximately 1,400 migrants are currently accomodated in the Lampedusa reception centre, after 150 people were transferred there by ferry from Porto Empedocle (close to Agrigento) yesterday. The centre has the capacity to host around 250 people.(ANSAmed).
