(ANSAmed) - ROME, MARCH 17 - At least 31 people were reported dead in an air raid that hit a vessel carrying Somali migrants near the Red sea in front of Yemen's Coast, the UN said.

According to rebel sources, women and children are among the victims. It is still unclear who carried out the bombing.

Local sources were quoted by Arab media as saying that Apache fighter helicopters struck the boat. At least 89 people were rescued.

The migrants were reportedly trying to reach Sudan. The bodies were taken to a bay along the coast. The attack occurred in the strait of Bab al-Mandeb, which is under the constant surveillance of aircraft of the Saudi-led coalition operating in Yemen. (ANSAmed).
