BEIRUT - "Numerous" Syrian soldiers have been killed in a US air strike near the Jordanian border, state television said on Friday.
On Thursday the US-led anti-ISIS coalition said it has struck "pro-regime forces advancing in a de-escalation zone" established in collaboration with allied militias near the At Tanf border crossing with Jordan. Russian deputy foreign minister Gennady Gatilov immediately described the raid as "absolutely inacceptable" and said it violated "the sovereignty of the country". Syrian television did not give the number of dead or injured.
Meanwhile, the opposition national observatory on human rights in Syria reports that eight pro-government rebels, "mostly non-Syrians", were killed.
The same source says that the raid struck a convoy carrying government troops and allied rebels and that at least four vehicles were destroyed.
