(ANSAmed) - TEL AVIV, DECEMBER 7 - Clashes are underway Thursday in various areas of the West Bank and in particular in Bethlehem, Hebron and Ramallah, following an announcement by US President Donald Trump on Wednesday recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Maan News Agency said 16 demonstrators have been intoxicated by gas or injured by rubber bullets in clashes with the Israeli Army in Tulkarem and Qalqilya.

Other incidents have been reported in the area between Ramallah and Jerusalem.

Demonstrators in Gaza and the West Bank have set fire to American and Israeli flags, as well as to posters of US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The main target of the protests is Trump, where in Gaza posters depicting the US president were burned. In Bethlehem, a large portrait of Trump - graffiti that was recently painted on the Israeli West Bank barrier wall - was covered over with black paint.

In Nablus, demonstrators brought a puppet with Trump's face into the square and lit it on fire.

Since Wednesday a photomontage has been circulating online that depicts Trump lying on the ground bleeding, with bullet holes in his head and his chest.

Three Palestinian demonstrators were wounded by Israeli military fire when this morning the protest demonstration they were participating in at Khan Yunes (Gaza) reached the fencing of the demarcation line between the Gaza Strip and Israel, according to medical sources in Gaza.

In Tel Aviv, a military spokesperson confirmed only that soldiers in that area had broken up a violent Palestinian demonstration.(ANSAmed).
