BEIRUT - Kurdish-Syrian forces backed by the US-led anti-ISIS coalition took a key area on Wednesday morning at the border with Iraq along the Euphrates River, according to Kurdish-Syrian military sources cited by pan-Arab media outlets.

The area, in the region of Deir az Zor, was previously dominated by the Islamic State.

Sources said Iraqi government forces took part in the operation in Syria's Abu Kamal district along the border with Iraq.
