(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, NOVEMBER 21 - A general strike by civil servants in Tunisia was confirmed for Thursday after negotiations between the Tunisian government and UGTT (Tunisian General Labor Union) broke down on Wednesday. Workers are protesting denied salary rises by the government.

Striking employees include workers in the ministries and the central, regional, and local public offices.

A minimum level of service will be guaranteed "according to measures established by the general sector federations", UGTT said.

Civil servants are also expected to hold a demonstration in front of the Tunisian Parliament on Friday.

UGTT Secretary General Noureddine Taboubi announced a national meeting for Saturday to consider adopting further actions in the event that the union's demands are not accepted.(ANSAmed).
