(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, APRIL 29 - The Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) has called a regional general strike for Monday in Sidi Bouzid after an incident in Sabala Oulet Asker.

The incident, on Saturday in the central part of the country, resulted in the death of 12 farmhands including 7 women. Twelve others were injured. The workers had been transported in ways similar to livestock on the back of a lorry for merchandise. The incident is the latest in a long series of similar ones in the agricultural sector in Tunisia in April. On Friday in the Ragada region in Kairoun, 9 farmhands had fallen from a lorry that had been taking them to their place of work. On April 11, two other farmhands died in a road accident in Zaghoun. UGTT urged the authorities to consider April 29 a day of regional mourning in memory of the victims of the Sabela Oulet Asker incident. (ANSAmed)
