GAZA/TEL AVIV - The distribution of funds from Qatar to needy families in the Gaza Strip is encountering difficulties, according to Palestinian news agency Maan.
It said the funds, which were brought into Gaza on Sunday as part of an informal ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, are destined for 109,000 families, each of which will receive 100 dollars.
However, Israel reportedly expressed objections to 5,000 of the families that it said are tied to the military wing of Hamas.
If the opposition is resolved, aid distribution could resume as soon as Wednesday.
In the coming days, an Egyptian intelligence delegation is expected in Gaza to check the enactment of the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel.
Media reports said security measures have been adopted to protect the Egyptian officials from Islamic extremists who could threaten them following the death of imprisoned former Egyptian president Mohammad Morsi in a Cairo courtroom.
