(ANSAmed) - BEIRUT, SEPTEMBER 4 - Armed clashes and artillery shelling resumed on Wednesday morning in Syria's northwestern region Idlib, where Russian-backed government troops are conducting an offensive against opposition factions, some of which are backed by Turkey. Reports were from sources on the ground, who said that the ceasefire called on Saturday by Russia had been violated repeatedly but that the level of violence was lower than had been seen in previous weeks. The fighting is occurring especially in southeast Idlib along a frontline between the Idlib and Hama regions, where government forces are trying to open the road towards a highway connecting Hama with Aleppo but passes through territory held by the opposition factions.
