Libya: Haftar's forces launch rockets on Mitiga overnight

Following resumption of flights, delays but no suspension

(ANSAmed) - CAIRO, JANUARY 24 - The Mitiga airport in Tripoli was the target of "various rockets" launched by the forces of General Khalifa Haftar "hours after the announcement of the resumption" of flights there, said broadcaster Libya al-Ahrar in a tweet on Thursday night.

ANSA confirmed the information on Friday morning through a source close to the Government of National Accord (GNA) of Fayez al-Sarraj.

On Friday morning, the Mitiga airport's Facebook page announced delays but no new suspension of air traffic.

The GNA decided Thursday to resume flights at Mitiga, despite the fact that Haftar on Wednesday had once again announced a no-fly zone over Tripoli and his intention to shoot down any military or civilian aircraft in flight over the capital.

"It was agreed upon to not give in to the unprecedented terrorist threat," said a post on the Facebook page of the GNA, which late Thursday evening gave an account of a cabinet meeting that took place Thursday morning, in which the decision was made.(ANSAmed).
