The country overtakes China in death toll - 3,434 in total

    ROME - Spain has recorded more deaths from coronavirus than China with 3,434 victims in total so far, the government said Wednesday.

    The Spanish health ministry has confirmed that over the past 24 hours a total of 738 people have died from coronavirus - the highest death toll registered in Spain since the start of the crisis. The confirmed cases in the country have risen on Wednesday to a total of 47,610, with 7,937 new infections, the Efe news agency reports.

    In Madrid the deaths were 290 over the past 24 hours with a total number of 1,825 victims in the area of the Spanish capital since the start of the epidemic, 53.15% of the total victims recorded in Spain.
