(ANSAmed) - ISTANBUL, JUNE 11 - International flights from Turkey have begun to gradually resume, after two months of being grounded due to the Covid-19 emergency.

Turkish Airlines announced for Thursday its first flights from Istanbul Airport to the German cities of Dusseldorf, Munich, and Frankfurt, as well as to London and Amsterdam.

In addition, the first flight from London landed Thursday morning at Sabiha Gokcen International Airport on the Asian side of the city on the Bosphorus.

"International flights have started in a controlled way," said Turkish Transport Minister Adil Karaismailoglu.

"Starting on June 15, flights will resume regularly to countries not at risk," he said.

However, there have been various issues in recent hours for passengers headed to Turkey from European airports, including in light of the announced extension of the EU external border closure.

Domestic flights in Turkey resumed on June 1.(ANSAmed).
