25 June, 14:21

ROME - ''The Mare Jonio ship of Mediterranea Saving Humans set out last night from the port of Pozzallo and is sailing towards the central Mediterranean to carry out its eighth mission after rescuing on Friday the 19th, responding to a Mayday launched on the radio, 67 people left adrift and who had already lost any hope to survive, and disembarking them at the safe port of Pozzallo'', the NGO said on Thursday. ''Mare Jonio is setting out after completing all healthcare procedures and after disinfecting the ship and taking care of the necessary provisions''.
''The pandemic does not stop those fleeing torture, and it is not possible to escape from a duty to rescue because of the pandemic'', said Alessandra Sciurba, president of Mediterranea Saving Humans.
