Lleida and 7 other Catalan cities in lockdown starting Wednesday

15 July, 15:41

(ANSAmed) - ROME, 15 LUG - The Catalonia region in Spain registered 938 cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, according to the Spanish Health Department, cited by EFE news agency.

The majority of cases, 250, are in the Barcelona health district.

Health authorities said confirmed infections are on the rise due to an increase in the number of tests, especially on people who are asymptomatic.

Meanwhile, the city of Lleida and seven other cities in the county of Segrià, in Catalonia, are on lockdown starting Wednesday, after the Generalitat government approved a new resolution.

The resolution, protected by a modification of the Catalan law on public health, came in light of the veto that was imposed Monday by a court in the region. (ANSAmed).
