(ANSAmed) - BELGRADE, AUGUST 27 - A major clash between
migrants broke out late Wednesday evening in the migrant
reception centre in Bihac in northwest Bosnia-Herzegovina at the
border with Croatia, and police had to intervene to put down the
riot.
According to Serbian media, gunshots were heard, likely fired by a police officer to defend himself from a knife attack by one of the migrants.
About 150 refugees participated in the clashes, and several were wounded.
The situation is currently under control, but tension remains high across northwestern Bosnia-Herzegovina, where about 10,000 migrants are currently crowding the Balkan Route in an attempt to cross in any possible way into Croatia and continue towards countries in Western Europe.
The local Bosnian population has been protesting for weeks against violence, intimidation, and thefts by migrants, and the locals say they no longer feel safe in their own homes.
