PARIS - The four police officers suspended for the 20-minute beating of music producer Michel Zecler in his Paris recording studio are now under investigation.
The officers will be interrogated, with proceedings to follow.
A source at the Elysee said French President Emmanel Macron is "furious".
Friday's issue of French daily Le Monde said this latest case of police violence "tarnishes France".
Macron met with Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin on Friday morning to discuss the "umpteenth case of police violence", said a source close to the head of state.
The source said Macron was "very shocked" by the images of four police officers beating the victim.
On Thursday evening on public broadcaster France 2, Darmanin announced that "once the facts are ascertained by the judiciary" the four police officers, who are already suspended from the police force, will be removed from service.
