(ANSAmed) - ROME, MARCH 31 - Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio has announced that Italy is among a final shortlist of candidates to host the World Water Forum. "Italy has made it to the final shortlist of candidates to host the World Water Forum in March 2024", Di Maio said. The foreign minister made the announcement at the event 'Acqua 2050: Infrastrutture, efficienza, sostenibilità' (water 2050: infrastructures, efficiency, sustainability) organized by the Five-Star Movement.

"In Italy and in Europe we have a fortunate geography that has guaranteed an abundance of water but we just need to move by a few hundreds kilometers, for example in Sahel, to understand the importance of this resource", stressed the foreign minister.

"The management of water resources must follow an integrated approach", he went on to say. "The Italian government has dedicated a primary part of the Italian G20 to water. This theme will be awarded much space during preparatory events of COP26 which we will host this year in our country".

"Italy has a consolidated tradition of promotion of international cooperation in this sector, in particular in North Africa and in Sahel where some 50 projects have been started over the past three years for a value of 40 million euros", the foreign minister said, announcing that Italy "was admitted in the final shortlist to host the World Water Forum in 2024".
