(ANSAmed) - NICOSIA, FEBRUARY 14 - UN-led peace talks for a political settlement in Cyprus continue on Tuesday between the leaders of the island's two communities, as CNA reports. President of the Republic Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu will meet this morning, their first meeting after their meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at Greentree in New York.

The meeting will be taking place at the Chief of Missions residence in the United Nations Protected Area of Nicosia. Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkish troops invaded and occupied the island's northern third. UN led talks have been underway since 2008 with a view to reunite the island under a federal roof. In statements he made after a two day meeting he had with Christofias and Eroglu at Greentree, New York, between January 24 and 26, UN Secretary General Ban Ki moon expressed hope that the leaders of the two communities will continue their efforts until the end of March, noting that then his Special Adviser on Cyprus, Alexander Downer, will assess the situation. The UNSG added that if Downer's assessment is positive, he intends to call an international conference on the Cyprus issue.(ANSAmed).
