Syria: UN Gen'l Assembly criticizes Security Council

Ahead of vote on Syria resolution

03 August, 18:53

(ANSAMed) - NEW YORK, AUGUST 3 - ''The level of violence in Syria has reached unprecedented proportions,'' UN General Assembly President Nassir Abdulaziz al-Nasser said on Friday just before the vote on a Syria resolution. ''The time has come to act, words are not enough,'' the Qatari diplomat told the Assembly, adding that the UN Security Council has been incapable of putting an end to the bloodbath.

''The Council's inactivity sends the wrong signal to all parties to the conflict. The General Assembly must face up to this inactivity and take on board that it has role to play in favor of international peace,'' al-Nasser said. (ANSAMed).
