Pontiff Lebanon trip plans proceed despite Syria fallout

(ANSAmed) - VATICAN CITY, AUGUST 20 - Pope Benedict XVI's Lebanon trip plans are proceeding undeterred by repercussions the Middle Eastern country is suffering from the Syrian crisis, a Vatican official said on Monday.

"The preparations for the Pope's trip to Lebanon are being carried out by the Vatican without any hesitation," said Father Federico Lombardi, spokesperson for the Holy See. "An evident sign of this is the popemobile having already been sent out to Beirut." Vatican Radio also made the announcement aimed at quelling concern the September 14-16 trip plans could be cancelled as a result of repercussions the war in Syria is having on Lebanon.
