France: centre-right proposes EU commissioner on immigration

24 April, 12:58

(ANSAmed) - PARIS, APRIL 24 - In its campaign platform for European parliamentary elections, France's main centre-right party, the UMP, said it intends to propose establishing a "European Immigration commissioner, who would head a European agency for the Schengen area in charge of the harmonization of visa policies, information exchange and the right to asylum", reported French newspaper Le Figaro.

The agency, according to a draft, would have the power to establish "sanctions, suspension or even the exclusion of a state in breach". (ANSAmed).
