(ANSAmed) - WASHINGTON, MAY 14 - US Secretary of State John Kerry on Wednesday said Washington very much appreciated the fact that Italy had offered the port of Gioa Tauro for the transfer of Syrian chemical weapons.

In a joint press conference in Washington with his Italian counterpart Federica Mogherini, Kerry said Italy was being of great help with such an effort.

Kerry also commented the resignation of the UN envoy for Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, saying he did not fail in his mission.

The secretary of State said Brahimi had succeeded in bringing to the negotiating table several opposition movements and that Syrian President Bashar al Assad was to blame for boycotting any attempt to dialogue. (ANSAmed)
