(ANSAmed) - TEL AVIV - Palestinian National Authority President, Mahmoud Abbas, stressed that the lot of Palestinian prisoners inside Israeli jails tops the agenda of the Ramallah Palestinian leadership and added that "the release of 6,000 prisoners" will take priority "in any agreement" with Israel.

Abbas said that the issue would be submitted at the Hague International Criminal Court, according to the local Palestinian press, that quoted him on "Palestinian prisoner day". Palestinian President also called on "governments of the international community to take ownership of the dossier and offer prisoners legal and humanitarian protection".

"It's time for the rulers of Israel to understand that prisons, detention centres, colonies, land-grabbing and holding on to our taxes will only produce more extremism and bring us further from what we seek: peace based on the end of occupation, the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, the right of return as stated in UN Resolution 194 and the peace initiative of the Arab League", Abbas said during a television adddress according to the local media.(ANSAmed).
