EU: Italy and Greece pressured for migrant detention centers

In hotspots; 'relocation and deportation don't work otherwise'

16 December, 19:06

(ANSAmed) - BRUSSELS, DECEMEBER 16 - Many delegations from the EU including France and Germany called on Wednesday for detention facilities to be set up in migrant 'hotspots' in Italy and Greece to prevent those slated for deportation from leaving beforehand.

''Relocation and deportation without detention centers do not work,'' EU diplomatic sources said from both the eastern and western parts of the union. The draft conclusions of the summit scheduled for Thursday and Friday in Brussels calls for hotspots to have ''the necessary reception capacity to reach their objectives''.
