Giampaolo Cantini new Italian ambassador to Egypt

Maurizio Massari replaces Carlo Calenda at EU

10 May, 21:10

(ANSAmed) - ROME, MAY 10 - Premier Matteo Renzi said at the end of a cabinet meeting Tuesday that Italy's new ambassador to Egypt will be Giampaolo Cantini. He replaces Ambassador Maurizio Massari, who becomes Italy's new Permanent Representative to the European Union in Brussels. Italy's former EU representative, Carlo Calenda, was sworn in as industry minister earlier in the day.

Massari was recalled to Italy by Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni on April 8, after the failure of Italian and Egyptian investigators meeting in Rome on the Cairo torture and murder of researcher Giulio Regeni. (ANSAmed).
